Ceremony conferring knighthood on the new Cavalieri del Lavoro for their services to employment – 26 October 2021 – Quirinale, Rome

On 2 June, Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella named 25 new Members of the Order of Merit for Labour 6 women and 19 men, invested as Cavalieri del Lavoro, who were selected for their outstanding contributions to enterprise.

Maria Cristina Piovesana, chairwoman and CEO of ALF Group S.p.A., is one of the 6 female nominees for the prestigious award, and the only recipient from the furniture industry.

The selection recognises female entrepreneurship in Italy and Maria Cristina Piovesana, in particular, a woman who, in addition to heading the family business, has distinguished herself over the years in several institutional roles. Since 2018, Maria Cristina Piovesana has also been Chair of Assindustria Venetocentro – Padova e Treviso (which she helped to create) and in 2020 she was appointed Deputy Chair of Confindustria with responsibility for the environment, sustainability and culture.

The official award ceremony was finally held at the Quirinale on 26 October.
